Workshops

After lunch on Saturday we will be offering these four workshops led by our guest speakers. Please read through the descriptions below so you can select your workshop when you register. Room locations at NorthCreek are listed as well.

Christ-Centered Preaching: What’s the Fuss? with Julius Kim (Room 117)
Preaching is an essential means to the mission of God. At it’s best, expository preaching represents God’s redemptive context. If Jesus is the center of our faith, he must be the center of our preaching. This workshop will discuss the importance of Christ-centered preaching, how it’s not merely forcing Jesus into a text, and how the gospel must not only be part of our sermon but shape the whole sermon. While this workshop addresses those who preach, it’s for all who want to deepen their understanding of the centrality of Christ in Scripture.

Shepherding Through Prayer with John Onwuchekwa (Room 118)
Prayer is as necessary to the believer as breathing is to the body—but rarely does it come as naturally. In fact, prayer in the church often gets subtly pushed to the side in favor of pragmatic practices that promise tangible results. This workshop will focus on the necessity of regular prayer as a central practice in the local church—awakening us to the need and blessing of corporate prayer by examining what Jesus taught about prayer, how the first Christians approached prayer, and how to prioritize prayer in our congregations.

Sexuality and Our Witness with Sam Allberry (Rooms 119/120)
Human sexuality has become a flashpoint for the church in its engagement with our world today. Yet, as Christians, we can't avoid this topic. This workshop will help us to think through how to respond to some of the challenges we commonly face, and to present a positive witness to the gospel.

Depression and the Gospel with Jonathan Holmes (Sanctuary)
Despair, hopelessness, fatigue—these are all words people have used to describe their experience of depression. There is something about depression which makes even the smallest task seem enormous. Why do we struggle with depression? What causes it? Does God’s word have something to say to those who struggle as well as those who offer care and hope to the struggler? In this workshop we’ll seek to develop a biblical and compassionate gaze towards this all too common issue.
